Summary
Meet Yvette:
With over 28 years of experience working in the not for profit sector and direct experience of being an executive director of Girls Incorporated of Durham for the past sixteen years, she has worked hard to be a strong advocate for girls and women issues. Girls Inc. has been recognized by the Fraser Institute as one of the top run not for profits in Canada. They were ranked in the top three in the Education category. Girls Inc. is positioned to have the most significant and life-changing impact on girls serving over 1,600 girls last year. They are dedicated to empowering individual girls – supporting, mentoring, and guiding them in a safe, affirming, girls-only environment. They deliver in-school and community based programs that tackle self-esteem, bullying, sexual assault, and healthy relationships. Their research-based programs give girls the tools to lead healthy, educated and independent lives. Girls Inc. also works to improve the conditions in which all girls live by advocating for legislation and policies that improve their chances to succeed. Yvette’s leadership, dedication and diligence has earned her the respect of her colleagues and peers, as she was nominated for the Women of Distinction Award in 2007, 2013, 2017 and received the Friends of Health Award in 2012 and Toastmasters International Communication and Leadership Award in 2013. She has been invited to participate at many National Advisory Committees and Round tables. She is a mother of two adult children Natasha and Braeden who are strong feminists; and has lived in Ajax for over 40 years.
